Privacy Policy

Whiskers' Word Quest is made by Toby Jones, trading as The Caffeine Media Company, a sole proprietorship based in Blackpool, UK. We are the controller of any personal information described here. It is a children's learning app, so we collect as little as we can. There are no accounts, no adverts and no sign-in.
What stays on the device
- Each child's first name (or nickname), year group, scores, stars, fish, outfits and settings.
- Words and tasks a grown-up adds, and the grown-ups' PIN.
This is stored on the device. If iCloud is on, Apple syncs it between your family's own devices using iCloud key-value storage. We cannot see it. In classroom mode nothing is synced.
No tracking or analytics
The app has no analytics, no adverts and no third-party tracking. We do not receive any information about how it is used.
Apple services
- Game Center (optional): if a player is signed in to Game Center, scores and achievements go to Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. Nothing is sent if they are not signed in. Classroom mode never signs anyone in.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see payment details.
- Apple Intelligence (optional, grown-ups' area): checks spellings and writes progress reports on the device. Nothing is sent to us or to any server.
- Camera: used only if a grown-up chooses to scan a class QR code. Images are not saved or sent.
Tasks and the website
Task links hold the task's content (for example the words) inside the link itself. This website does not store tasks, accounts or children's details. The Create a Task page keeps drafts only in your own browser or in a file you save. The website sets no tracking cookies. Its pages load a font from Google Fonts and, on the Create a Task page, two small code libraries from cdnjs. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Those providers can see your IP address and browser details when a page loads, under their own privacy policies.
Children
The app is designed for children aged 5 to 11. Purchases, outside links and settings are behind a grown-ups' PIN. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and we do not share information with advertisers or data brokers.
Your choices and rights
Delete a child's profile in Grown-ups to remove their progress from the device and iCloud, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device. We hold no personal information about you or your child on our own servers. If you email us, we keep your message only to reply, and under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete it.
